Teaching the next generation.
From 1980 to 2004, Professor Tlou taught and researched nursing, gender and HIV, sexual and reproductive health, older people and community health.
She helped develop nursing and medical education curricula and broaden health sciences teaching in Botswana and Southern Africa. Her research documented the impact of HIV and AIDS on women and connected scholarship to the needs of communities.

Inaugurated as Chancellor in 2021, Professor Tlou has spoken about equity, flexibility, inclusion and lifelong learning as principles of open education.
